bb7’s Ruth Barry to Participate in the University of Wisconsin’s Distinguished seminar & Panelist Series
University of Wisconsin – Department of electrical & computer engineering, Thursday, february 23rd
The University of Wisconsin’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) is celebrating its 125th anniversary! The department has been celebrating this milestone with numerous events throughout the 2016/2017 school year.
bb7’s own Ruth Barry will join an elite panel of five women as part of the department’s Distinguished Panel Series: Celebrating Women in ECE. The purpose of this panel discussion is to give recognition to prominent alumni, strengthen the relationships between students and alumni, and allow panelists to share their thoughts and experiences about their careers as engineers.
When asked about her contributions to this distinguished panel, Ruth replied, “Having worked in various industries – both publicly traded and privately held companies – I have a lot of experience to draw from to assess what some of the overarching truths are for women in electrical engineering as well as ability to compare different industries and cultures. This is a great opportunity to discuss the reality of the opportunities and the challenges for women in the industry and engineering in particular. I hope to inspire enthusiasm and encouragement, and also give a dose of reality so we can break what is left of the glass ceiling.”
